Progressive die design must be reasonable analysis of the stamping process, determine the best stamping process program, calculate the relevant process parameters, reasonable design layout program, select the mold structure type.The key technologies of multi-station progressive die stamping include layout process design, blank calculation, wrinkling, fracture prediction, springback prediction and control.

The following is my progressive die stamping key technical experience, only for reference.

(1) layout process design layout is the key to progressive die design, determine the location of parts and the relationship between each station, positioning mode, precision lighter hood material utilization rate and mold structure design.The quality of layout has great influence on the structure, life and quality of stamping parts.When layout, first according to the shape of the workpiece to determine the use of waste layout, waste layout, mixed layout or nesting layout, and is single, double or multiple line layout.Layout should follow the principle: first punching after blanking, first inside after outside;First the parts with high dimensional accuracy, then the parts with low dimensional accuracy;First punch the part with high coaxiality and symmetry and the inner center hole, and then guide and position the blanking.It should be noted that: the number of working positions should not be too much to reduce the cumulative error in the blanking parts with higher requirements on shape and position accuracy and size;For small size and complex shape of punching parts, the distance between the stations is small, should be designed to open the actual punching station space.

(2) accurate calculation of blank shape and reasonable design of flanging and trimming edge will directly affect the quality of mold and stamping process design.Reasonable design of blank shape helps to reduce the required punching pressure, reduce mold wear and improve mold life.It can improve the stress and strain state of materials, improve the forming limit of materials, reduce forming defects and improve the forming quality of stamping parts.Accurate design of billet or flanging trimming can reduce the work of workpiece trimming and reduce the cost of mold manufacturing and production.For the workpiece with complex shape, it is difficult to get satisfactory blank size by direct firing gun barrel. With the development of computational simulation technology, the accuracy of blank can be improved by simulation calculation.

(3) prediction of wrinkling and fracture progressive die workpiece due to complex structure, as well as by the influence of process parameters and lubrication conditions and other factors, easy to produce rupture and wrinkling defects, resulting in parts scrap.Before determining the progressive die structure, when stamping materials is obtained by finite element numerical simulation of stress and strain state, thickness change and the forming limit, etc. As a result, the analysis of the workpiece forming the wrinkling and rupture condition for each station, and forecast the result, according to the situation of progressive die structure perfect, modify the forming process parameters, such as optimize the blank-holder force, to obtain reasonable blank-holder force value, can suppress wrinkling, also can prevent rupture.

(4) springback prediction and control of springback after sheet metal forming is an inevitable phenomenon in stamping forming process. As there are many progressive memes, the prediction and control of springback is more complicated.The existence of springback directly affects the forming precision of workpiece and subsequent assembly.The size of springback is affected by many factors such as material, die clearance, bending radius, blank holder and drawbead.In order to control the springback within the allowable range, the springback is controlled by continuous process test and mold repair, which results in a long manufacturing cycle, high cost and low precision of the workpiece.The design of progressive die must predict and control the springback. Through numerical simulation technology, it is possible to predict the forming of sheet metal stamping and its springback, so as to modify the mould surface of the corresponding position of progressive die, compensate the springback or take corresponding countermeasures to control the springback, so that the workpiece can meet the requirements of precision.
